| Powerscourt
Castle and Estate
South of Dublin, located
in the Wicklow mountains is Powerscourt Castle and Estate. The building
has a fine setting which looks over the tended gardens and fountains, and
the view leads one's eye directly to the famous Great Sugarloaf Mountain,
a peak resembling its name. Visitors can spend a day viewing the interior
of the castle and touring the grounds, including a small Japanese Garden,
and a pet cemetery. |
Glendalough
Also located in Wicklow,
but just a short bus journey away, is the historic monastic site of Glendalough,
with remarkable preserved buildings and graves. Set in beautiful surroundings,
the Monastery sits in a pleasant valley on the edge of a lake. Hiking,
archeology, history, and getting away from the business of city life is
what Glendalough has to offer.
Dalkey
Dalkey is one of the wealthy
suburbs of Dublin, and several celebrities have houses in this town, which
is only a short drive south of the city. The town is a pretty town, but
its setting is what makes it popular: many of the houses have a fine cliffside
views of the sea. The island which has Martello tower and church ruin can
be visited by boat. Dalkey is also well known for its cliffs which are
popular with climbers.
Benavista makes an excellent
